Our Story

Meadowmoon was born out of an idea to create a brand and range of clothing as sustainable as possible.

At Meadowmoon, ethics stand at the core of our values. This means it was important to us to select supply chains that guarantee our garments are crafted in line with our brand values and minimise environmental impacts.

It's not just about the clothes though, we believe people matter too, so we're proud to use suppliers who voluntarily contributes to a living wage top up for supply chain workers.

This is monitored by their own compliance team, independently by Social Accountability International at payslip level, and in person by Greenpeace Inspectors. They also audit each supplier in person to validate specialised third party audits that overlap to ensure strict standards are met.

Materials

All our clothes are made from 100% GOTS Certified Organic Cotton or 100% Recycled Polyester in some of our bags.

Organic cotton farming methods are better for producers and the ecosystem around the farms. Instead of more toxic pesticides and fertilisers, co-planting and insect traps are used along with the special ingredient - cow poo. It encourages biodiversity and leads to the extra soft feel of our organic cotton clothing.

Fewer inputs also means less water, but even organic cotton is still a thirsty crop. So where you grow it matters. The fields our supplier uses to grow the organic cotton for our products are in the North of India, where the monsoons fill reservoirs that supply almost all the water needed.

Printing

Our Suppliers use environmentally friendly water based inks that conform to the GOTS/Soil Association organic criteria, which is not only more environmentally friendly but means all the inks used contain no animal derived products and are not tested on animals. Because of this all our products are Certified OEKO-TEX - Standard 100.

Furthermore, the water used in the dying process is recovered, cleaned and recirculated through filtering and using reverse osmosis and distillation.

Salt is added back in so that the dye adheres and all the cruddy mulchy stuff left over is dried out and used for road markings. About 95% of the water is recirculated and recovered.

At the end, the water coming out of the filters and going back round to be reused again is crystal clear, literally clean enough to drink. Once it has been cleaned, it is then used at the input for the next batch. It is a closed loop system.

Manufacturing and Processes

At Meadowmoon, we hate waste. After learning that in the traditional manufacturing process 40% of clothing remains unworn and that a truck full of textiles is sent to landfills or incinerators every second, we were determined to minimise our environmental footprint.

In our search for suppliers and distribution channels this commitment led us to choose a Made To Order approach as the most suitable. With this approach, garments are only printed once an order has been placed. This eliminates the need for estimating how many items and designs will be in demand, thereby significantly reducing waste and excess production.

Renewable Energy

As well as our products being Made To Order to minimise waste, the suppliers we use also run their factories completely on renewable energies.

But that's not enough, they even use machine-to-machine communications technology which allows them to dynamically turn equipment on and off only when it is needed, reducing waste.

This is something that really aligns with our values at Meadowmoon. So much so, that where we were able to we made the majority of our website dark to reduce energy consumption.

Plastic Free Packaging

We love nature and when we read that by 2050 there will be more plastic in the ocean than fish, we knew we had to be part of the change.

This means that instead of plastic packaging, all orders are sent in rip and splash-proof mailer bag made out of paper. Large orders arrive in cardboard boxes, with paper-based tape.
